In Uncle Tom's Cabin Harriet Beecher Stowe weaved together true stories into a fictional story, to bring to light the sufferings of slaves in the United States. Abraham Lincoln apparently said to her, "so you are the little woman who wrote the book that started this great (Civil) war."
